It was a fabulous opening of The Gem Community Arts Centre  in August !So many people worked so hard over the week to make the festival a success. Thanks to all of you who gave up your time to work behind the bar, on the door, on tickets, on tech, telling stories, singing, dancing, improvising, painting faces, manning the art exhibition, cooking, serving, playing piano, carving wood, cleaning, organising and being an audience member.

This exciting venue has a host of different spaces now available hire ranging from intimate meeting space  to hiring the whole  theatre and dressing rooms.  Ideal for events from parties, meetings and seminars  to full scale productions. Tissue is a play which takes a sometimes heart warming, sometimes confronting, and often humorous look at the people involved in her journey.

The one-act version of “Tissue” has been toured around Victoria for the past two months by Gemco Players, in conjunction with Theatre Box, and has received 9 awards thus far.

This October will see the full version of Tissue performed twice only, at the newest theatre in Australia, “The Gem”.

This  show is a great fundraiser for Gemco. We have already done 2 successful shows earlier in the year to full houses or should I say “Train”

There are 6 shows scheduled for 2010 and we are looking for cast who may be interested in being involved- not necessarily for  all the shows.

“Little Gems” 10 Minute Original Play Fest

Winners will have their work published in a book!

The Little Gems play readings were a success and now we prepare for the publication and performance on the FRI 13th  August.

We still need directors for three plays: Old Tricks for a New Dog; Shelter; Memories. Anyone who would like more information about these plays or would like to direct one of them contact Ken Purdham on 0412140157 or at ken@kenpurdham.com.

MURDER ON THE PUFFING BILLY EXPRESS

These shows are our major fundraisers for Gemco which each show generating $900+  in funds. In 2010 there are a number of shows scheduled – There have already been 2 this year with great response from the audience. Kieran Dennis is directing. These mainly improvised shows are performed on the Puffing Billy night train and in the historical “Nobelius Packing Shed” in Emerald where a 3 course meal is served.  This fun show has been a sell-out success in 2009 with a number of shows already sold-out in 2010!.   There are great parts available with singing and dancing.

This is a fun show with not too many rehearsals.

Ideal for those who can’t commit to a long season.

No Experience necessary-
