Improvisation workshops!

Oct 13th, 2007

Whether you’re an absolute beginner, or a seasoned improviser wanting to refresh your skills, this series of six workshops has been designed to develop and hone your skills.

Workshops will concentrate on skill development through various exercises and the teaching of well known game structures.

-

Monday 8th October

Back to Basics 7.30pm - 9.30pm

An introduction / recap of all terms and techniques fundamental to improvisation. Learn about the mechanics of making scenes work; the circle of expectation, advancing and extending, original vs obvious, breaking the routine and creating mystery.

-

Monday 15th October

Week Two 7.30pm - 9.30pm

How to take your ideas and communicate them effectively to others in your team. How to avoid gagging and find the humour inherent within the story. Learn to be changed by the story and raise the stakes to make offers count.

-

Monday 22nd October

Week Three 7.30pm - 9.30pm

How to create an effective platform and introduce tilts with impact. This week we will begin learning game structures by concentrating on some character based games.

-

Monday 29th October

Week Four 7.30pm - 9.30pm

How to physically interact with others on stage. Learn the basics of stage combat skills and intimacy - the question of kiss or kill. This week, we concentrate on some of the physical and emotional game structures.

-

Monday 5th November

Bringing it together - Part One 7.30pm - 9.30pm

This week, we begin to bring everything we have learnt together, by learning and recapping game structures. Volunteer to jump up and have a go at what you’ve learnt so far and get feedback on your performances.

The series of six workshops will culminate in a mock improvisation competition tonight, with teams choosing game structures and handles to challenge them. Friends and family are welcome along from 8pm to watch the show.
