Improvisation workshops!
Oct 13th, 2007Whether you’re an absolute beginner, or a seasoned improviser wanting to refresh your skills, this series of six workshops has been designed to develop and hone your skills.
Workshops will concentrate on skill development through various exercises and the teaching of well known game structures.

Monday 8th October
Back to Basics 7.30pm - 9.30pm
An introduction / recap of all terms and techniques fundamental to improvisation. Learn about the mechanics of making scenes work; the circle of expectation, advancing and extending, original vs obvious, breaking the routine and creating mystery.

Monday 15th October
Week Two 7.30pm - 9.30pm
How to take your ideas and communicate them effectively to others in your team. How to avoid gagging and find the humour inherent within the story. Learn to be changed by the story and raise the stakes to make offers count.

Monday 22nd October
Week Three 7.30pm - 9.30pm
How to create an effective platform and introduce tilts with impact. This week we will begin learning game structures by concentrating on some character based games.

Monday 29th October
Week Four 7.30pm - 9.30pm
How to physically interact with others on stage. Learn the basics of stage combat skills and intimacy - the question of kiss or kill. This week, we concentrate on some of the physical and emotional game structures.

Monday 5th November
Bringing it together - Part One 7.30pm - 9.30pm
This week, we begin to bring everything we have learnt together, by learning and recapping game structures. Volunteer to jump up and have a go at what you’ve learnt so far and get feedback on your performances.

Monday 12th November
Bringing it together - Part Two 7.30pm - 9.30pm
The series of six workshops will culminate in a mock improvisation competition tonight, with teams choosing game structures and handles to challenge them. Friends and family are welcome along from 8pm to watch the show.

After completion of these 6 workshops, participants may be invited to perform at the November Friday Free Fall on Friday 30th November at 8pm at Gemco Hall, Kilvington Drive, Emerald.
All participants will be entitled to a half price ticket for this show.

If there are participants who cannot attend all six workshops but would still like to come along to some, they may pay $7.50 per workshop BUT they must still book for the dates they are coming!
