It was a fabulous opening of The Gem Community Arts Centre  in August !So many people worked so hard over the week to make the festival a success. Thanks to all of you who gave up your time to work behind the bar, on the door, on tickets, on tech, telling stories, singing, dancing, improvising, painting faces, manning the art exhibition, cooking, serving, playing piano, carving wood, cleaning, organising and being an audience member.

This exciting venue has a host of different spaces now available hire ranging from intimate meeting space  to hiring the whole  theatre and dressing rooms.  Ideal for events from parties, meetings and seminars  to full scale productions. The hire rates are extremely affordable to the general community. Tissue is a play which takes a sometimes heart warming, sometimes confronting, and often humorous look at the people involved in her journey.

The one-act version of “Tissue” has been toured around Victoria for the past two months by Gemco Players, in conjunction with Theatre Box, and has received 9 awards thus far.

This October will see the full version of Tissue performed twice only, at the newest theatre in Australia, “The Gem”.

At this workshop, participants are encouraged to perform a previously rehearsed work and Tony will offer constructive criticism on stylistic interpretation and advice on practice techniques.

Tony is able to accompany participants on the day but it would be preferable for you to bring your own accompanist.

Held at Gemco Hall, Sunday 19th April, 2 – 4pm.

It started out as a trio (Flute, Recorders and Harpsichord) but since then the numbers have grown to 5, with the addition of voice and Viola da Gamba.

The group consists of the following players; Katrina Dowling (Recorders), Elisha Oliver (Flute), Tony Toppi (Piano/Harpsichord/Percussion), Tara Rankine (Voice/Percussion) and Elizabeth Zetzmann (Viola da Gamba/Recorders).

The ensemble performs music from renaissance to modern-day eras and its members frequently arrange, re-arrange and compose music to adapt it for the ensemble.

Held at Gemco Hall, 18th of April 2009 11:00 am – 1:00 pm and 19th of April 2009 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.

“This year we have added some new and exciting events as well as keeping or enhancing some of our Festival favourites.”

  • As well as our Popular Traditional Gospel Music day at Uniting Church we have added a Contemporary Gospel evening at St Marks Anglican Church
  • Blues afternoon at the RSL
  • Writer’s workshops (books and songs)
  • Samuel Beckett Plays
