Come along to Open Stage night, where anyone can do [practically] anything!

The first Sat of Every month 8pm, Gemco Hall.

“The Opening of “The Gem Theatre”- Outstanding Success!!

It was a fabulous opening of The Gem Community Arts Centre in August !So many people worked so hard over the week to make the festival a success. Thanks to all of you who gave up your time to work behind the bar, on the door, on tickets, on tech, telling stories, singing, dancing, improvising, painting faces, manning the art exhibition, cooking, serving, playing piano, carving wood, cleaning, organising and being an audience member.

This exciting venue has a host of different spaces now available hire ranging from intimate meeting space to hiring the whole theatre and dressing rooms. Ideal for events from parties, meetings and seminars to full scale productions. The hire rates are extremely affordable to the general community. Murder on the Puffing Billy Express

This great show is a fantastic fundraiser for Gemco. We have already done 3 shows this year The latest on Oct 2nd. This years season was completely sold out and has been a crucial fundraiser for Gemco with close to $3000 being raised this year.
We will be performing another 9 shows next year 2010 , the first one in Feb 2010 and are looking for interested persons to be part of a “pool” of actors that are will to be in one or more of the shows. You don’t have to commit to all 6 performances.
Again, No Experience is necessary just loads of enthusiasm.!
This show is performed both on the Puffing Billy Night train and at the historic Packing Shed in Emerald. Lots of improvisation and some songs and dance.

Theatre Opening Celebrations

To open the communities new 120 seat theatre, situated at Gemco on Kilvington Road, Emerald, a week of celebration will be held incorporating a diverse range of visual and performing arts.

With food, wine and good entertainment, it promises to be a fantastic week.

But this isn’t just her story…

Tissue is a play which takes a sometimes heart warming, sometimes confronting, and often humorous look at the people involved in her journey.

The one-act version of “Tissue” has been toured around Victoria for the past two months by Gemco Players, in conjunction with Theatre Box, and has received 9 awards thus far.

This October will see the full version of Tissue performed twice only, at the newest theatre in Australia, “The Gem”.

When: Friday 9th & Saturday 10th October, 2009.

Known as the ‘Friendly Festival’, this annual weekend attracts theatre companies from across Victoria to compete against each other with plays of 20 – 45 minutes in length.

The weekend showcases many plays of many genres and styles, a highlight of the weekend being the many youth entries for which there are separate awards.

Wanted for show: “Murder On the Puffing Billy Express”.

This show is a great fundraiser for Gemco. We have already done 2 successful shows earlier in the year to full houses or should I say “Train”

There are 6 shows scheduled for 2010 and we are looking for cast who may be interested in being involved- not necessarily for all the shows.

Males 18-30 for fun, improvised melodramatic style “Murder Mystery” to be performed on board Puffing Billy and at the Nobelius Packing shed

No Experience necessary. Enthusiasm and reliability essential.
